Mount Vernon sent a big message to Montefiore Health System, the communinty and the governor — literally and figuratively.
With a poster-sized email petition to Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed by hundreds of supporters in the background, several speakers, such as Greater Centennial A.M.E. Zion Church Pastor Stephen Pogue, spoke to dozens of passionate supporters about saving the city's only hospital.
This hospital takes care of at-risk patients, with programs to treat diabetes, dialysis, mental health issues, cardiac disease, stroke and HIV/AIDS.
"The people of Mount Vernon deserve a fully functional hospital," Pogue said during Friday evening's rally outside the hospital. "This is not a done deal."
